BPG looking for bands who want tapes

by on Sep.23, 2010, under Blogs

Please note that this is a totally promotional post for my tape label. If you want to read about actual music news and such just skip it. -Tim

Back in April I decided to start a cassette tape imprint label (Buckingham Pie Group). I got the equipment and supplies and set to work doing a run of 100 tapes for I Am The Dot. When I moved to Chicago for the summer the tape stuff stayed behind and I put the label on hold. Now that I’m back, it’s time to make some tapes! As such, BPG is currently looking for 3 Colorado-based bands who fall roughly within the following categories:

- Shoegaze, lo-fi, garage, punk, or experimental genres (very loosely considered)

- Able to supply recordings for tape production (BPG is only a tape-imprint label, we don’t do recording/mastering)

- Preferably BPG would like to do new releases (tapes can be available in time for a release show/party if given sufficient time for production).

- Currently playing shows in the Denver-metro area

If you think your band would be a good candidate for tapes (or you want to offer fans more than a download card), send an email to buckinghampiegroup@gmail.com or contact me directly (if you already have my info).

-Tim

Edit: No more submissions will be accepted for now; y’all will just have to wait until I get done working with the new batch of bands on BPG. Exciting announcements soon.

Oh yeah, CO Sounds tapes available…

by on Jul.15, 2010, under Blogs

This is a case of “Oh yeah, I totally forgot about that.” A while back Something Like Sound curated a compilation of Colorado musicians and called it Colorado Sounds. When I sent out the initial press release there were promises of cassette mixtape versions of the comp.

The tapes have actually been done since about last December and alot of them have already been distributed to the bands and various other random people. If you’d like to get a copy of the hand-made Colorado Sounds cassette tape head over to the Buckingham Pie Group webstore.

Each tape also includes 45 minutes of unique and random jazz music recorded off the radio in either New York City or Minneapolis during the late 1980′s (don’t ask).

The tapes are free, just pay $2 for shipping (and 1 cent, because they won’t let us sell them for free). While you’re there consider picking up a copy of I Am The Dot’s Rare Creatures EP. Both tapes are an excellent addition to any cassette collection.

Introducing the Buckingham Pie Group

by on Apr.02, 2010, under Blogs

If there’s a reason things have been quiet around Something Like Sound lately it’s that I’ve been busy. My time isn’t just filled with homework, tests, and presentations (although it mostly is)… I’m starting a cassette label. I have been working with I Am The Dot to release his Rare Creatures EP on tape, so expect to see that in a few weeks.

I’m still working out the kinks, but I hope to do releases every couple months for a variety of local and non-local lo-fi acts. If your group would like consideration for a Buckingham Pie Group release, email buckinghampiegroup@gmail.com (but don’t expect a “yes” or quick reply). In the mean-time, hit up the BPG website and the BPG MySpace
